The Tragic Death of Fairfield Man in Custody

A Fairfield man, identified as 50-year-old Jaime Rodriguez, was arrested in a sting operation after attempting to meet a teen for sex in Danville. However, the situation took a dark turn when Rodriguez tragically passed away at an area hospital after trying to hang himself while in custody, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Details of the Arrest

Authorities revealed that Rodriguez was apprehended by the region’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27th. The multi-agency operation was set up after investigators discovered that Rodriguez had been communicating with a detective posing as a 13-year-old boy, soliciting the minor for sex.

Upon his arrest, Rodriguez was charged with arranging to meet a minor for lewd purposes, contacting a minor to commit a felony, attempting lewd acts on a child, attempting to send harmful material to seduce a minor, and resisting arrest.

While being transported to the Martinez Detention Facility, Rodriguez attempted to take his own life by hanging himself. Medical assistance was provided, and he was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the hospital the following morning.
