The authorities in Maricopa County have initiated a murder investigation and pressed criminal charges against two individuals in connection with the disappearance of a father and son. The family reported Chad Holvig missing on July 11, and his son, Dalton Holvig, was last heard from on July 17, raising concerns about their whereabouts. Acting on information provided by the family, Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone revealed during a press conference that a search warrant was obtained and executed at a residence in Goodyear on August 4. The search was carried out by the Sheriff’s Tactical Operations Unit. The property in question was owned by Roberto and Christina Bernal, who were known to be acquainted with the Holvig family.

During the search, Dalton Holvig was discovered alive on the property, albeit suffering from gunshot wounds sustained several weeks prior. Sheriff Penzone noted that Dalton had not received any medical treatment and was immediately transported to the hospital for urgent care. The search also led to the discovery of two bodies, identified as Chad Holvig and 31-year-old Anthony Vayne. The cause of Chad Holvig’s death is still being investigated, while the county medical examiner determined that Vayne died from a gunshot wound. The Sheriff stated that Vayne’s connection to the property and the Bernals was yet to be established, and it remains unclear how long his body had been at the scene.

Roberto Bernal has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon as a prohibited possessor, as he is accused of shooting Dalton. Christina Bernal, on the other hand, faces charges related to the possession of a weapon as a prohibited possessor. Additionally, both Bernals have been charged with kidnapping, as per the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. However, these charges are still pending confirmation.

Regarding Vayne’s death, no charges have been filed as of yet. Sheriff Penzone mentioned the presence of drug use at the property but refrained from divulging further details or motives related to the case..
