Beech Grove Man Killed in Fatal Crash in Western Indiana

FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. – Tragedy struck on Monday morning when a Beech Grove man lost his life in a fatal crash on US 41 in western Indiana. The incident occurred near County Road 700 South, prompting a response from the Indiana State Police and the Fountain County Sheriff’s Office.

According to initial investigations conducted by the ISP, the crash involved a 2020 Freightliner Box Truck that was traveling southbound on US 41. As the truck approached County Road 700 South, it veered off the west side of the road. However, the driver managed to bring the vehicle back onto the roadway before overcorrecting and driving off the east side.

The truck collided with a utility pole and flipped over, resulting in the tragic death of the driver, identified as 22-year-old Mathew Ratzlaff from Beech Grove. The passenger in the truck was transported to a hospital in Danville, IL, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by the ISP. Authorities are working to determine what led to the Freightliner veering off the road and ultimately causing the fatal crash.
