Broward Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Pedestrian accident in Lauderhill

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is currently conducting an investigation into the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in Lauderhill on July 28. The accident occurred around 1:28 a.m. near the 5500 block of North University Drive. Local authorities, including the Lauderhill Police and Lauderhill Fire Rescue, responded to the scene after receiving reports of a traffic crash with severe injuries.

In a press release, the BSO stated that their Traffic Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation due to the loss of life. The driver involved in the incident has been identified as Javern Edward Malik Nolan, a 26-year-old resident of Coral Springs. According to the accident report, Nolan was driving a 2018 Honda Accord heading northbound on North University Drive when the incident occurred near Commercial Boulevard.

The investigation has revealed that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street in an area lacking marked crosswalks. The identity of the victim, described as an adult male, is currently being withheld until next-of-kin notification is completed. Initial findings from the investigators indicate that Nolan tried to avoid colliding with the pedestrian, who suddenly rushed across the street. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was struck and killed. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the victim deceased shortly after arriving at the scene.

The BSO reports that Nolan remained at the accident scene and fully cooperated with the investigating authorities. Based on preliminary assessments, excessive speed and impairment do not appear to have played a role in the tragic crash.
