DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. – Tragedy struck on Friday afternoon in Deschutes County when a fatal crash claimed the life of one person and left two others injured, according to the Oregon State Police.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene just before 4:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 20, near milepost 15. Preliminary investigations conducted by the Oregon State Police revealed that a Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on the highway when its driver inexplicably made a U-turn in the middle of the road. Tragically, the Subaru was then t-boned by an eastbound Ford F350.
Both occupants of the Subaru, as well as the driver of the Ford, were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Regrettably, the driver of the Subaru, identified as 68-year-old Janet Diane Abelein from Portland, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
