Tragic Crash Claims Three Lives in Goldfield, Nevada
A devastating crash in Esmeralda County, just two miles south of the historic town of Goldfield, has left three people dead and several others seriously injured. The incident, which occurred on May 18 at approximately 12:30 p.m., has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Goldfield.
Details of the Crash
According to Nevada Highway Patrol troopers, the crash involved a 2023 Chevy Malibu travelling north on US-95 and a group of vehicles heading south, including a Harley-Davidson tricycle, four motorcycles, and a 2014 Honda Pilot. The driver of the Malibu inexplicably crossed the double yellow centerline, entering the southbound lane and causing a chain reaction collision.
The Malibu first struck the left rear fender of the Harley, then collided with several of the motorcycles before hitting the right front of the Honda Pilot. The Malibu finally came to rest north of the crash site, partially blocking the southbound lane of travel.
Victims of the Crash
Tragically, three of the four motorcycle riders involved in the crash lost their lives at the scene. The victims have been identified as 52-year-old Benny Hall of Tonopah, 71-year-old Jeffrey Hicks of Goldfield, and 54-year-old Frank Winkler of Linton, Indiana. Their untimely deaths have left a void in the hearts of their loved ones and the community as a whole.
The driver of the Malibu and the fourth motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted from the scene for medical treatment. Additionally, a passenger in the Malibu suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
