The incident came to light on December 29 when Sheriff’s Investigators were informed that a woman had been unknowingly administered anesthesia and subsequently sexually assaulted. The victim’s interviews revealed that the suspect, identified as Paul M. Giacopelli, was an anesthesiologist with access to various drugs, according to Putnam County Sheriff Kevin J. McConville.

Paul M. Giacopelli, a 59-year-old anesthesiologist employed by Northwell Health and holding privileges at Putnam Hospital Center, was promptly interviewed and arrested on December 30. He now faces four charges, including four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree assault, both of which are felonies.

Following his arrest, Giacopelli was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and subsequently sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility. The court set his bail at $150,000 in cash or $500,000 in bond.
