Resident of Southeast Accused of Series of Sexual Assaults

PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — A resident of Southeast is facing multiple charges after allegedly committing a series of sexual assaults in December.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a report on December 29 regarding a woman who had been subjected to sexual assault after being administered anesthesia unknowingly. Sheriff Kevin J. McConville stated that during the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was an anesthesiologist with access to various drugs.

The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Paul M. Giacopelli, was interviewed and subsequently arrested on December 30. Giacopelli, an anesthesiologist affiliated with Northwell Health and holding privileges at Putnam Hospital Center, is now facing four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree assault, both categorized as felonies.

Following his arrest, Giacopelli was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court. He has been remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.
