Man Arrested for Running Over Woman and Male Friend in Jaipur
The Jaipur police apprehended a man on Wednesday after he allegedly ran over a 19-year-old woman and her 28-year-old male friend with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Tuesday morning, according to a police official familiar with the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (East) Gyan Chand Yadav stated, “The accused, identified as Mangesh, had intended to escape Suratgarh with the assistance of his friend Jitendra. We apprehended Mangesh while Jitendra was detained for further investigation.”
According to the police, Uma Suthar tragically lost her life while her friend Rajkumar suffered severe injuries when Mangesh allegedly struck them with his SUV following a heated altercation at a pub in Jaipur’s Jawahar Circle area early Tuesday morning.
As per the filed FIR by the injured victim Rajkumar, he and Uma had visited a pub on SL Marg on Monday night. Rajkumar is also a partner in the establishment.
After inspecting some construction work on the rooftop, Rajkumar and Uma returned to the restaurant to have dinner at approximately 2 am.
“The accused and the victims were acquaintances. When Mangesh made inappropriate comments towards Uma, they all sat down together and engaged in a conversation. However, the situation escalated when Mangesh attempted to touch Uma. Subsequently, the two left the restaurant around 5 am with a cab booked by Uma,” recounted Rajkumar.
Meanwhile, Mangesh and his girlfriend arrived at the scene and started a dispute with Rajkumar and Uma in front of the pub. The argument escalated, leading to Mangesh leaving momentarily but returning soon after in his SUV. He then ran over Rajkumar and Uma, who were waiting for the cab, as stated in the FIR.
The restaurant staff promptly rushed both victims to a nearby hospital, where Uma tragically succumbed to her injuries. Rajkumar remains under medical treatment, according to the police.
The accused has been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder).
Yadav revealed, “After fleeing the scene, Mangesh went to Jitendra’s residence, from where they procured another cab and arrived at Mansarovar. Mangesh then booked a cab from there to plan his escape.”
However, the police apprehended Jitendra in time and learned about Mangesh’s intentions. “We exerted pressure on Mangesh’s parents and compelled him to return to Jaipur, where we arrested him on Wednesday afternoon,” stated the DCP.
The police have also confiscated the SUV and ₹9 lakh in cash found inside. “We are currently questioning Jitendra and Mangesh’s girlfriend, Rinki, and appropriate actions will be taken against them,” added the DCP.
