Explosion at Maharashtra Factory Leaves Nine Dead and Three Injured

Nagpur, Dec 17 (PTI) – A tragic incident occurred at an explosives manufacturing factory in Chakdoh, Nagpur district, Maharashtra on Sunday, resulting in the loss of nine lives and leaving three individuals seriously injured, according to the police. The explosion took place at 9 am in building number HR-CPCH-2 (Mixing, Melting, and Casting), said Ashish Srivastava, senior general manager of Solar Industries India Limited.

The local community and relatives of the workers expressed their anger by blocking the Amravati-Nagpur highway near the factory. They demanded access to the premises to see the bodies of their loved ones. Approximately 200 people gathered outside the gate, while the police attempted to pacify them and urged them to disperse.

A senior police official stated that the explosives near the blast site were being secured before the recovery of the bodies. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister also visited the site and offered condolences to the bereaved families. The state government has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased, with an additional Rs 20 lakh each from the company.

An inquiry into the incident has been ordered by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, raised concerns about safety regulations and the training provided to the victims. He demanded that the state government provide a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and job opportunities for the families affected by the explosion.

The Winter Session of the Legislature is currently underway in Nagpur, and Wadettiwar intends to address the issue in the Assembly on Monday. Solar Industries India Limited expressed their commitment to providing support and relief to the families affected by the incident. They assured that they would implement the recommendations of the inquiry committee as soon as they are received.

Solar Industries India Limited is a company that manufactures drones and explosives for the armed forces. The blast occurred in the building where boosters used in coal mines are produced. The cause of the explosion is under investigation, and authorities are assessing the extent of damage.

The deceased have been identified as Yuvraj Charode, Omeshwar Macchirke, Mita Uikey, Aarti Sahare, Swetali Marbate, Pushpa Manapure, Bhagyashree Lonare, Rumita Uikey, and Mausam Patle. The bodies have not been removed from the site as of late Sunday night.

NCP MLA and former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, who visited the site, confirmed that the entire area has been sealed off for safety purposes. Neelkanthrao Sahare, whose daughter Aarti was among the deceased, pleaded for the return of his daughter’s body. Another victim, Rumita Uikey, a mother of two, was also tragically lost in the industrial accident.

The families affected by this devastating incident are anxiously awaiting the return of their loved ones’ bodies. The investigation continues to determine the cause of the explosion, while authorities work to ensure the safety of the surrounding areas.
