The individual responsible for the shooting and death of a man in a vehicle in Philadelphia’s Kensington area has been identified as Mark Dial, according to sources from 6abc. Eddie Irizarry, a 27-year-old man, was fatally shot by Dial, a five-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department assigned to the 24th District. Initially, it was reported that Irizarry was outside the car when the shooting occurred, allegedly after lunging at the police with a knife. However, recent information from top officials reveals that he was actually shot while inside his car.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw acknowledged that the previous information provided was based on the best available knowledge at the time, and the department is now striving to give accurate and timely updates. The incident took place when Dial and his partner were in a marked vehicle and noticed a Toyota Corolla driving erratically. They followed the car, which eventually drove the wrong way down a one-way street and parked mid-block on East Willard Street. Dial and his partner exited their vehicle, with Dial approaching the driver’s side window while his partner attempted to open the passenger’s side door.

According to investigators, Dial’s partner informed him that Irizarry, the driver of the Toyota, possessed a weapon. As Irizarry turned towards Dial, the officer discharged his firearm multiple times, causing fatal injuries. Irizarry was taken to Temple University Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities discovered two knives inside the vehicle, described as a “kitchen-style knife” and a “serrated folding knife,” and subsequently towed the car to a police garage.

This tragic incident involving a knife-wielding man who allegedly lunged at Philadelphia police officers has left Irizarry’s family demanding answers. The police department is now conducting an investigation to determine all the facts surrounding the shooting..
