A man is facing manslaughter charges after a human trafficking attempt turned deadly in Pinal County, Arizona. The driver, Rubelio Cruz de Paz-Lara, hit a vehicle and several cattle, resulting in a crash that left one woman dead and several others seriously injured. Some of the migrants involved fled into the desert but were later apprehended. A man in Florence, Arizona is now facing manslaughter charges following a fatal accident during a human trafficking attempt in 2022, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on the night of November 9 when the driver, identified as Rubelio Cruz de Paz-Lara, a 23-year-old from Guatemala, collided with a vehicle and several livestock on Park Link Drive east of Red Rock.
During the subsequent crash investigation, it was discovered that Paz-Lara had swerved dangerously close to a deputy while an SUV was approaching the road closure in the eastbound direction. The authorities located the vehicle less than a mile away from the initial collision site, where several occupants sustained serious injuries and a woman was found deceased. Some of the migrants involved in the incident fled into the desert, but a number of them were subsequently apprehended.
After months of investigation, Paz-Lara was identified as the suspect in the crash. He was extradited from Georgia and recently transferred into the custody of Pinal County. Currently, Paz-Lara is being held in the county jail on charges of manslaughter, with additional charges of aggravated assault and endangerment pending.
