BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was fatally shot in unincorporated Cocoa on Friday, August 11, 2023.
The deceased individual has been identified as Franklin Orwig Sr., a 58-year-old resident of Cocoa.
“The incident came to the attention of law enforcement when deputies were called to a residence on Burgess Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday evening after receiving reports of a shooting,” said Tod Goodyear, spokesperson for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male victim who was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing, with the Homicide and Crime Scene Units conducting interviews and examining evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest that the individuals involved in the incident were acquainted with each other and there is no immediate danger to the public.
