A fatal accident occurred in Botetourt County, Virginia, on Wednesday, resulting in the death of Christopher McCoy, a 47-year-old resident of Covington. The incident took place at approximately 4:56 p.m. on Route 220, specifically at a location situated eight tenths of a mile north of Locus Bottom. According to the Virginia State Police, McCoy was driving a Nissan southbound on Route 220 when a Honda SUV, driven by Kristen O. Chaplin, 34, failed to yield the right-of-way and entered the southbound lanes from a private drive. The collision between the two vehicles proved fatal for McCoy, who tragically lost his life at the scene. It was also reported that McCoy was not wearing his seatbelt.

Following the crash, Chaplin was transported to a hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. The authorities have charged her with reckless driving in connection with the incident.
