A police officer was killed and two others were wounded while serving arrest warrants for New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Negros Occidental, Philippines. Corporal Jaime Nunez died from gunshot wounds while Captain Jesus Alba and Corporal Dennis Nasis were injured. BACOLOD CITY – A police officer was killed while two others were wounded while on their way to serve arrest warrants for high-ranking New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Wednesday morning.
Corporal Jaime Nunez suffered fatal gunshot wounds to his body.
Captain Jesus Alba, Calatrava's deputy police chief, and Corporal Dennis Nasis were wounded and taken to the hospital, according to Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, the deputy for operations of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office.
An encounter broke out when the army and police personnel were on their way to serve arrest warrants on the identified rebels, Darry Dayawan, Charity Amacan, and others, according to a police report.
The composite team was composed of members from the 79th Infantry Battalion, 6th Battalion of the Regional Mobile Group, 6th Special Action Battalion, 1st Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company, and ten members of the Calatrava police station.
