The incident occurred when the girl’s neighbor, Michael Goodman, allegedly fired a gun at her before her father intervened and tackled the shooter. Goodman, 43, has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the child’s death. According to a legal document, the girl had been riding her scooter to buy ice cream from a nearby truck when the shooting occurred. Prior to the incident, the girl’s father had heard a gunshot and instructed her to return to their apartment. As she approached the front door, Goodman emerged from his own building holding a firearm. The father and other witnesses confronted Goodman, but he proceeded to point the gun at the girl and shoot her in the head. In the ensuing struggle, the father managed to tackle Goodman, causing the gun to discharge and strike Goodman in the eye. Tragically, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Goodman was arrested and also hospitalized. This heartbreaking incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in the United States, which remains the leading cause of death among children and teenagers. Police found gunshot residue on Goodman’s hands and recovered a 9mm Canik firearm near his apartment. As a result, Goodman is currently being held without bail.
