PISMO BEACH, Calif. (KFSN) — Authorities have apprehended three adolescents in connection with a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of a Fresno resident near the Pismo Beach pier earlier this year.

The above video is from a previous report and will be updated.

The incident occurred on Saturday, February 18, 2023, shortly before midnight, in the downtown area of Pismo Beach, specifically near the pier promenade.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered the victim, Gustavo Aquino, a 41-year-old from Fresno, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot.

Aquino was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to investigators, Aquino was approached by 19-year-old Daniel Jacob Santillana and two male teenagers, who interrogated him about his gang affiliation, leading to an altercation.

The two male teenagers, along with Santillana, were affiliated with a gang based in Hanford.

During the altercation, a 15-year-old retrieved a firearm from a parked vehicle in the pier parking lot and subsequently fired three shots, all of which struck Aquino.

Following the shooting, the three male suspects and two female teenagers fled the scene in the same vehicle they arrived in.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Anthony Robert, a 19-year-old from Delano.

After conducting an extensive review of surveillance footage and executing 30 search warrants, investigators successfully identified and apprehended the three suspects involved.

All three individuals involved in this incident are currently awaiting transfer to the San Luis County Obispo jail, where they will face charges.

This marks the first homicide related to a shooting in Pismo Beach since March 2006.

The Pismo Beach Police detectives and Investigators from the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office received assistance from various agencies, including the Kings County Major Crimes Unit, Hanford Police Department, Lemoore Police Department, Delano Police Department, and Kern County District Attorney’s Office Investigators.
