Crash Involving Suspected Drunk Driver Leaves Mother and 3-Year-Old Daughter Fighting for Recovery

A tragic crash on Monument Road has left a mother and her 3-year-old daughter fighting for their recovery. The incident occurred when Liz Cruz was driving with her daughter, Libby Ajavon, on Friday afternoon.

According to Liz’s account, she made a complete stop at a yield sign and checked for oncoming traffic before turning. However, they were blindsided by a suspected drunk driver’s vehicle, causing their car to spin out of control.

Luckily, the 78-year-old driver, identified as Laroy Gordon Slappey, escaped without injuries. However, he was taken into custody by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on several charges, including driving under the influence and driving on the wrong lane or side.

Both Liz and Libby were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Libby has been released, although she now requires a wheelchair due to a cast on her left leg. Liz, on the other hand, remains hospitalized with fractures all over her body and faces a long road to recovery.

Liz Cruz, from her hospital bed, pleaded for justice for her young daughter and herself. The devastated mother is calling for a fair legal process as they continue their challenging journey towards recovery.

The community has rallied behind Liz and Libby, with a GoFundMe campaign set up to support the family during this difficult time. As the investigation continues, the hope is for a swift resolution and the delivery of justice for the victims.
