LAS VEGAS, NM – A man wanted for a fatal shooting in Pueblo, Colorado, was arrested in New Mexico after allegedly firing shots at police officers. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Robert Rudichar, reportedly ambushed the officers early Sunday morning, firing at them multiple times before ultimately surrendering.

The incident occurred shortly after the discovery of a deceased man and a severely injured dog in a home on Berkley Avenue in Pueblo. The victim, identified as 46-year-old Franklin Bruner, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. The injured dog had to be euthanized due to its severe injuries.

Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, police were conducting a routine traffic stop involving a suspected drunk driver when Rudichar approached in a Nissan pickup truck. As a police officer approached the vehicle, Rudichar opened fire with a rifle, targeting the officers. He then fled the scene while continuing to shoot at the officers and the DWI suspect.

After a brief pursuit, Rudichar pulled over, exited the truck with his rifle, and surrendered by lying face-down on the roadway. Investigation later revealed that he was wanted by the Pueblo Colorado Police Department as a suspect in a homicide that occurred on July 29, 2023.

Rudichar is now facing charges in both Pueblo and New Mexico, including assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.

The Pueblo Police Department confirmed the arrest of a suspect in the Berkley Avenue homicide, but did not release his name. Further updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
