A 90-year-old woman died in a road accident in Kota Tinggi after a pick-up truck driven by her grandson hit a traffic light and a road sign. The incident occurred on Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing, and the driver lost control of the vehicle before the collision. The woman sustained serious injuries and died at the scene. The driver and another passenger are receiving medical treatment. The case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987. Nine firefighters were deployed to the scene to rescue the victims. 90-Year-Old Woman Dies in Road accident in Kota Tinggi
A tragic road accident in Kota Tinggi, Johor, claimed the life of a 90-year-old woman. The incident occurred when a pick-up truck, driven by her grandson, collided with a traffic light and a road sign along Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing, near KM36.5.
According to Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora, the fatal accident was reported to the police around 12.10 am on Tuesday, August 1. The 4WD vehicle, driven by the victim’s 32-year-old grandson, was traveling from Mersing towards Johor Baru. Two other passengers, the elderly woman and a 34-year-old male, were also in the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer towards the right lane shoulder before colliding with the traffic light and road sign. Tragically, the woman, who was seated in the back seat, sustained severe injuries and passed away at the scene.
The driver and the other passenger are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries at Kota Tinggi Hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
At the accident site, nine firefighters from Kota Tinggi fire and rescue station used rescue tools to extract the victims from the wrecked vehicle. The deceased has been identified as Chong Yat Oi, while the driver is Fong Chee Yong, and the other passenger is Chin Cheng Fai.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent such tragedies from occurring..
