Butler County, Ohio – In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, law enforcement deputies in Butler County discovered approximately 30 deceased dogs and puppies in various stages of decomposition at an animal rescue in Ohio. According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, this grim discovery was made earlier this week, and it is being described as “the most horrible conditions they have ever seen.”
The dogs and puppies were being held at two different properties in Madison Township, with the sheriff’s office revealing that one of the structures found was a garage housing more than 25 caged canines, enduring an indoor temperature as high as 89 degrees. The animals were kept together in cages filled with urine, fecal matter, and devoid of any food or water. Shockingly, one cage contained a mother dog and her eight newborn puppies.
Moreover, authorities also found 11 adult canines in the main house, some of which were caged together. The deceased animals were discovered in five refrigerators and freezers, some of which were not even functional, scattered throughout the two properties.
The conditions were so unbearable that Deputy Dog Wardens were forced to leave the premises multiple times due to the overpowering odor, which burned their eyes and took away their breath. CNN has reached out to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for further comments on the matter.
The owner of the animal rescue was operating under the name “Helping Hands for Furry Paws.” Identified as Rhonda Murphy, she now faces numerous charges of neglect and cruelty to companion animals, both felony and misdemeanor.
