A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 29-year-old man in San Diego. Peter Santiago, 29, was taken into custody on charges of murder and conspiracy. The victim, Stephen Toney, was shot during an argument near an encampment. Santiago’s arrest follows the earlier arrest of Esteban Elizondo, who was charged with murder and possession of a gun. Suspect Peter Santiago Taken Into Custody in Chollas Creek Area

San Diego police announced on Monday that a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 29-year-old man in the Chollas Creek area. Peter Santiago, aged 29, was apprehended at a residence on 50th Street near Orange Avenue last Thursday evening at around 9:45 p.m. He has been booked into jail on suspicion of murder and conspiracy related to the fatal shooting.

The victim, identified as Stephen Toney, was shot during an altercation with two other men near an encampment close to 54th Street and Chollas Parkway on July 22. Homicide Lt. Jud Campbell revealed that Toney was found lying in a ravine on the south side of Chollas Parkway after witnesses directed officers to his location. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Toney succumbed to his injuries.

This marks the second arrest made in connection with the case. Esteban Elizondo, aged 39, was taken into custody the day after the shooting when officers stopped a vehicle on El Cajon Boulevard near 49th Street. Elizondo, a passenger in the vehicle, has been charged with murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The driver, a 33-year-old man, was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
