Christian Dominguez, a 21-year-old assistant water polo coach at Ramona High School, was fatally injured in the accident. The crash occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Dominguez was riding his 2020 Kawasaki Ninja in the carpool lane when a 2010 Acura, driving recklessly, collided with his motorcycle. The impact of the crash threw Dominguez off his bike and underneath a large commercial vehicle, which tragically ran over him. The driver of the Acura failed to stop at the scene of the accident.
Thanks to the diligent efforts of law enforcement, the CHP was able to obtain the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle. An automated license plate reader later spotted the Acura in Moreno Valley, and sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle in Hemet. The following day, authorities apprehended the teen driver responsible for the hit-and-run crash.
While drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the crash, the teen may face charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
