California Man Arrested After Stabbing Woman, Posting Video on Facebook

SAN MATEO, Calif. (WJW) – A California man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman and posting a video of her death on Facebook, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

The police department received a notification from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada about a witness who had seen a stabbing video on Facebook around 3:45 p.m. The sheriff’s office traced the phone number associated with the account to an apartment complex in San Mateo.

Following an intensive search, officers located the possible suspect apartment almost three hours later. However, the suspect, identified as Mark Merchikoff, was not present at the scene. Two hours after the victim’s body was found, Merchikoff was apprehended in San Jose.

The motive for the stabbing is still under investigation, but police have confirmed that Merchikoff knew the victim. Authorities are urging anyone with information or security footage related to this homicide to contact Detective Sergeant Dave Manion at (650) 522-7660.
