One person is being sought and another person has been charged in connection with a multivehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Topsfield that left one man dead and another man suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to the Massachusetts State Police. The crash occurred late Friday afternoon when three vehicles traveling southbound on I-95 near Exit 70 were involved in a chain-reaction collision. According to state police investigators, a GMC Acadia SUV suddenly and rapidly decelerated, causing a Chevrolet Impala traveling behind it to brake and veer towards the grass median. A Chevrolet Express van in the leftmost lane attempted to avoid a collision but was struck by the Impala, causing the van to roll over. Two passengers in the van were ejected, with one pronounced dead at the scene and the other suffering life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Impala suffered no apparent injuries, but the two occupants of the SUV fled the scene on foot into the nearby woods. One of the men was apprehended and charged with interfering with a police officer. The second occupant is still being sought. The crash is under investigation by state troopers and various law enforcement agencies.
