Alfred A. Smith, the man accused of fatally shooting a 2-month-old in Topeka, has been captured and is now in a Kansas jail. Smith was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on Thursday and is being held without bond. He was previously booked into the Greene County Missouri jail on unrelated charges. The shooting occurred on July 14, and the victim, 2-month-old Alonzoe K. Smith, later died from his injuries. Police have not yet revealed the charges Smith will face in connection with the case. Suspect in Topeka Infant shooting Now in Kansas Jail

SHAWNEE COUNTY—The suspect believed to be responsible for the tragic shooting of a 2-month-old in Topeka is currently being held in a Kansas jail, according to recent online jail records.
Early on Thursday, 29-year-old Alfred A. Smith was officially booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. He is currently being detained without the possibility of bail.
As per online booking records, Smith had previously been incarcerated on unrelated charges in the Greene County Missouri jail on July 20.
The incident occurred on July 14 when law enforcement responded to a distress call at a Topeka hospital. The victim, identified as 2-month-old Alonzoe K. Smith, had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, as stated by Lt. Ronnie Connell.
The infant was immediately given medical attention for the life-threatening injury but unfortunately succumbed to it later on. The shooting is reported to have taken place in the 1000 Block of SW Mulvane Street. Following the tragic death of the child, the police appealed to the public for assistance in locating Smith. The specific charges he will face in connection with the case have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
