Newly released bodycam footage provides a chilling glimpse into the aftermath of a tragic incident in Ocala, Florida, where Susan Lorincz, a 58-year-old white woman, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing her black neighbor, Ajike ‘AJ’ Owens, 34. The incident occurred following a two-year-long feud between the two individuals.

The bodycam footage, obtained by WESH 2 News, captures the moment police arrived at the scene and instructed Lorincz, who was still inside her home after shooting Owens through her door, to surrender with her hands up. In the video, Lorincz can be heard requesting her water, but the officer declines her plea, reminding her that she is under arrest.

However, out of respect for Owens’ family, WESH 2 News edited out the segment in which police inform Owens’ children about their mother’s death. The footage highlights the emotional toll this tragedy has taken on the community, especially on Owens’ nine-year-old son, who witnessed the fatal shooting.

During the encounter, an officer informs his colleague that the young boy in the car is the primary witness to the incident. Another individual states that the boy and his brother were the only witnesses to the altercation. According to this person, all they heard was knocking followed by a gunshot, with no signs of fighting.

Throughout the bodycam footage, Lorincz is only heard speaking while providing her information to the police. She is last seen being placed in the back of a police car.

Lorincz has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree felony charge of manslaughter with a firearm, as well as counts of culpable negligence, battery, and assault. After posting a $154,000 bond, she was released from custody.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Lorincz claimed that she had a headache on the day of the shooting, and the noise and commotion caused by children running and yelling outside her apartment exacerbated her discomfort.

Authorities discovered that prior to the shooting, Lorincz allegedly threw a pair of roller skates at some children who were playing basketball, hitting one of them. As a result, Owens went to confront Lorincz, who claimed that Owens threatened to kill her and pounded on her door with such force that she feared it would be broken down.

The investigation revealed that Lorincz fired a single round from her .380-caliber handgun, which penetrated the closed door and fatally struck Owens. Lorincz admitted to investigators that she had used racist slurs, including the n-word, when referring to Owens’ children in the months leading up to the incident. She also alleged that Owens had previously attacked her.

Initially, authorities considered the possibility of a “stand your ground” claim, leading to a delay in charging Lorincz. However, after conducting a thorough investigation and gathering eyewitness testimonies, law enforcement determined that her actions were not justifiable under Florida law. Consequently, Lorincz was arrested and charged.

Sheriff Billy Woods revealed that since January 2021, there had been numerous calls related to the ongoing feud between Owens and Lorincz. The tragic outcome of this dispute serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of unresolved conflicts and the importance of finding peaceful resolutions..
