Two individuals, a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old, have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old in Edwards, Mississippi. The victim, identified as Denarius Hayes, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The 17-year-old suspect, Raymond Townsend, has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held in the Youth Detention Center. The 20-year-old suspect, Keith Lee, has been charged with murder and is being held at the Raymond Detention Center. In a tragic incident in Edwards, Mississippi, a 15-year-old boy named Denarius Hayes lost his life in a shooting. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at Brandon Arms Apartments on Highway 467 on Friday, July 14. Upon arrival, they found Hayes with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was immediately transported to River Region Hospital in Vicksburg. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. Sadly, on Monday, July 24, Hayes succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the shooting. The first suspect, 17-year-old Raymond Townsend, was initially charged with aggravated assault. However, after Hayes’ death, his charge was upgraded to murder. Townsend is currently being held in the Youth Detention Center. The second suspect, 20-year-old Keith Lee, was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently held at the Raymond Detention Center.
Sheriff Tyree Jones stated that there may be additional arrests and charges as the investigation continues. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact them or Crime Stoppers.
