A tragic accident at a poultry plant in Hattiesburg, Mississippi has claimed the life of a teenage boy. The incident occurred at the Mar-Jac Poultry-MS processing plant on July 14, around 8 p.m.

According to a press release from the company, the 16-year-old employee was conducting sanitation operations when the accident took place. He sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The employee has been identified as Duvan Pérez, although his name was withheld initially due to his age and ongoing investigation.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy, and the company has expressed its condolences to the teenager’s family and friends. Mar-Jac Poultry emphasized that safety is their top priority and that they are devastated whenever an employee is injured.

This is not the first fatal accident at the Mar-Jac Poultry plant in Hattiesburg. In 2020, two men lost their lives in separate incidents that occurred approximately six months apart.
