By | July 17, 2023

An 18-year-old woman named Lauren Collins tragically lost her life in a car accident on Interstate 75 in Boone County. The incident occurred when a tire broke free from a pickup truck and collided with Collins’ car.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Deputies received a call about a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-75 at around 12:15 a.m. Upon investigation, they discovered that Collins, a resident of Independence, was driving south on I-75 when the tire struck her windshield.

Authorities suspect that another vehicle, possibly a dual pickup truck, was traveling north on I-75 when one of its tires suddenly blew out. This caused the truck to lose control and crash into Collins’ vehicle after sliding over the concrete barrier.

Collins was extricated from her car by the Walton Fire Department and rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the hospital.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office accident Reconstruction Team is currently handling the inquiry. They are still searching for the car that blew a tire on I-75 northbound.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Sgt. Jeff Nagy at the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 859-334-8466.

This devastating accident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the potential dangers that can arise from mechanical failures. It is crucial for drivers to regularly inspect their vehicles and ensure that they are in proper working condition to prevent accidents like this from occurring.
