The driver involved in a devastating crash in Daytona Beach on April 1 has been arrested and charged in an unrelated case. Miguel Miranda, 19, was arrested on Wednesday for his involvement in a February drive-by shooting that injured a 16-year-old boy. Miranda has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and firing into an occupied dwelling.

The drive-by shooting took place on February 12 in Deltona. The victim, who was babysitting his 7-week-old nephew at the time, was shot in the arm. Fortunately, the infant was unharmed. The investigation initially had few leads, but video surveillance footage and interviews with the victim eventually led detectives to Miranda as a person of interest.

Miranda was the driver in the fatal crash that occurred on April 1. The crash resulted in the deaths of three teenagers and left one survivor with serious injuries. It was previously unknown who was behind the wheel during the incident. During the crash investigation, a 9mm handgun was found near the driver’s seat, and ballistics testing confirmed that it was the same weapon used in the February drive-by shooting.

In addition to the recent charges, Miranda has a previous arrest record. In July 2021, he and his brother were arrested for attempted murder following another drive-by shooting in Deltona.

The victims of the crash have been identified as Richard Anthony Acevedo, 19, Adam Robert Acevedo, 17, and Michael Liburd, 14. Richard Acevedo, the father of two of the victims, stated that Miranda was his son’s best friend and speculated that the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Miranda is currently being held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail. The investigation into the crash and the drive-by shooting is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed..
