Accident – Death – Obituary News :

WASHINGTON — A prominent assassin associated with the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel, Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, also known as “El Nini,” has been extradited to the United States by Mexican authorities. This extradition comes after his arrest last year and he is set to face charges related to drug trafficking, possession of firearms, and witness intimidation, as announced by the Justice Department on Saturday.

El Nini was identified as a key leader and commander of a group responsible for providing security to the sons of imprisoned drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Additionally, he played a crucial role in facilitating their illicit drug operations, particularly in the trafficking of the lethal synthetic opioid fentanyl to the United States.

Fentanyl, a potent substance, has been linked to approximately 70,000 fatal overdose cases annually in the United States, making it a significant public health concern.

Allegations Against El Nini

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland stated in a press release that El Nini was a prominent assassin within the Sinaloa Cartel, responsible for carrying out acts of violence such as murder, torture, and kidnapping against rivals and individuals who posed a threat to the cartel’s criminal activities.

Despite the charges brought against him, court records did not indicate an attorney representing Pérez Salas at the time of his extradition.

Capture and Extradition

Last year, the Justice Department unveiled a series of charges against high-ranking cartel members, prompting the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to offer a $3 million reward for the capture of Pérez Salas, aged 31. He was apprehended at a fortified residence in Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa state, in November.

President Joe Biden expressed gratitude to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for facilitating the extradition of El Nini to the United States. President Biden highlighted the collaborative efforts between both nations to combat the fentanyl and synthetic drug crisis, which has claimed numerous lives in both countries.

Background of El Nini

El Nini’s moniker is believed to derive from a colloquial Mexican term “neither nor,” symbolizing individuals who neither engage in employment nor pursue education. At the time of his arrest, former DEA international operations chief Mike Vigil described him as “a complete psychopath.”

Pérez Salas oversaw a security team known as the Ninis, a group notorious for their extreme violence and affiliation with the Chapitos. The Ninis received specialised training in various combat techniques, including urban warfare, tactical operations, and sniper skills.

Acts of Violence

According to an indictment unsealed in New York last year, Pérez Salas was implicated in the torture of a Mexican federal agent in 2017. Alongside his associates, he subjected the victim to brutal treatment for a prolonged period, involving the insertion of a corkscrew into the victim’s muscles and placing hot chillies in the wounds.

The Ninis were reportedly involved in carrying out heinous acts of violence, including taking rival captives to properties owned by the Chapitos for execution. Shockingly, some victims were fed to tigers owned by the Chapitos, whether dead or alive, as detailed in the indictment.

With El Nini’s extradition to the United States, authorities are optimistic about advancing legal proceedings against him and dismantling the criminal network associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.
