A man was horrifically burnt on Saturday after someone threw flaming liquid on him on a New York City subway train.

The victim leapt in front of his fiancée and cousin to shield them, he shared with the New York Post from his hospital room.

Petrit Alijaj, 23, was wrapped from head to toe as he lay in his bed at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Hospital.

He said he was still in shock from the attack. He has burns on 30% of his body and will be in the hospital for at least a week.

Alijaj said it was worth it to save his fiancée.

“I protected my fiancée with my body,” he told the Post.

Alijaj, who is from Albania, said he was sitting on the No. 1 train with his fiancée and his cousin on their way to visit the Statue of Liberty.

The attacker, identified as 49-year-old Nile Taylor, got on with a cup in his hand filled with an unknown fluid, according to the Post.
