A disturbing video circulating online has sparked a police investigation into an alleged altercation at Garland Independent School District’s Sachse High School. The footage, which has caused widespread concern, shows a distressing scene involving a staff member and a student.
Jeremy Ashcraft, the father of the student involved, took action by filing a police report after witnessing the footage. The video appears to capture his 14-year-old son being knocked unconscious by an adult while attempting to intervene in a fight, according to a report from NBC 5 DFW.
According to Ashcraft, the incident began with his son being taunted in the school bathroom, leading to a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight. The video allegedly shows a staff member forcefully restraining the student involved in the altercation on school grounds.
Describing the events shown in the footage, Ashcraft detailed how his son was pushed onto the stairs, placed in a headlock, slammed to the ground, and ultimately rendered unconscious after being shoved into a wall.
Ashcraft expressed dissatisfaction with the school’s response, highlighting discrepancies between the video evidence and the medical report provided by the school nurse. Although the medical report documented the student’s complaints of knee and back pain, Ashcraft believes it failed to accurately depict the altercation.
Following the incident, Ashcraft’s son received a three-day suspension, as reported by NBC.
The Sachse Police Department has confirmed an ongoing investigation into the matter. In an email statement to NBC, the department stated, “The Sachse Police Department is aware of the accusations of an assault taking place at Sachse High School. This report is currently being investigated thoroughly.”
Garland ISD has reassured families of its commitment to student safety and emphasized that the investigation into the staff member’s actions is ongoing.
While the details of the staff member’s employment status remain undisclosed, a spokesperson for the school district assured NBC that student safety is a top priority at Garland ISD and that protocols are in place to respond to and investigate such incidents on campuses.
Recent reports of alleged staff misconduct in schools have raised concerns in the community. Earlier this week, an incident involving a 4-year-old student in Collin County prompted an investigation by Princeton ISD and the Princeton Police Department. In April, Saginaw Police investigated an assault incident at a North Texas K-8 school, where a second-grade student claimed to have been assaulted by a faculty member.
