In a tragic incident on Interstate 5 north of Seattle, a man was fatally shot by a Washington state trooper during an altercation. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased as 31-year-old Marvin Arellano from Nampa, Idaho. Arellano succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, according to reports by the Daily Herald.
The events leading to the fatal shooting unfolded when the state patrol received a report of a man wielding a hammer on the shoulder of northbound I-5 in Everett last week. The situation escalated when the man began ramming into a Department of Transportation contractor vehicle that was operating a lift over a slough with two contractors on board, as per investigators.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that Arellano proceeded to attack the road workers and a responding trooper, who eventually fired the fatal shots. Despite efforts by law enforcement to assist him, Arellano tragically passed away at the scene. One of the contract workers sustained injuries during the altercation.
The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, responsible for investigating incidents of police use of force, has yet to provide an update on the ongoing investigation. Moreover, the identity of the trooper involved in the shooting has not been disclosed to the public.
