The Alexandria Police Department (APD) is asking for assistance from the public to identify the driver responsible for a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old man in Alexandria earlier this month.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, May 9, when the victim, identified as Alexandria resident James Thomson, was struck by a vehicle on N. Jordan Street. Despite initially surviving the collision, Thomson’s condition worsened, and he passed away on Saturday, May 18.

Details of the Incident

According to a statement released by the Alexandria Police Department:

On the evening of May 9, 2024, at around 9:20 p.m., Alexandria Police Officers responded to a report of an adult male found lying in the roadway at the intersection of North Jordan Street and Taney Avenue. The victim, James Thomson, had suffered an injury to the back of his head and indicated that he had been struck by a car. He was initially treated for his injuries at a local hospital, but his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his untimely death on May 18.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will conduct an investigation to determine the cause and manner of Mr. Thomson’s death.

The Alexandria Police Department is actively investigating the hit-and-run incident and is seeking any information from the public that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The Traffic Safety Section of the Alexandria Police Department is specifically appealing for witnesses, video footage, or any other details that could aid in the investigation.
