Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from Clay County, Missouri, has made headlines after becoming the first person in the state to be charged with the crime of attempted voluntary manslaughter by knowingly assisting another in the commission of self-murder. The incident took place in Randolph on Thursday, May 16, when deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the 600 block of Cherry Street just before midnight.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a woman lying on the ground with a large knife protruding from under her armpit, with a man standing nearby. The man, later identified as 41-year-old Thomas R. Crownover, admitted to recording the woman stabbing herself. He showed the deputies a video in which he could be heard instructing the woman to harm herself under threat of violence if she refused.

According to the video, Crownover guided the woman on which knife to use, prompting her to retrieve a larger one. He even directed her on where to insert the knife based on scenes from a movie. After the woman fell to the ground, Crownover checked to confirm that she had carried out the act.

Authorities noted that Crownover did not attempt to provide any aid to the woman and revealed that he had physically assaulted her a few days prior. The woman had prior injuries consistent with the alleged assault, as stated in a Facebook post from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas R. Crownover has been charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action. He is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Fortunately, the woman survived the incident, as confirmed by the police.
