Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A mother informed FOX 5 that her son sustained injuries from bullet fragments when a Clayton County deputy serving an eviction notice unexpectedly fired his weapon.

The mother shared a video of the incident captured by her Ring camera.

The footage depicted the official knocking on the door of the Riverdale home and attempting the doorknob. The duration of time he had been standing there before the recording commenced is unclear. The deputy can be heard identifying himself as being from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

Six seconds later, a 13-year-old boy opened the door slightly, and a black dog bolted out onto the porch where the official was positioned.

The deputy could be heard shouting “Get your dog!” followed by the sound of gunfire.

As the official reached for his weapon, two individuals from inside the house attempted to restrain the dog. One of those individuals, identified as the mother’s son, pursued the dog as the official discharged his firearm.

After the teenager secured his dog and brought him back inside the house, the deputy inquired, “Y’all alright? Kid are you OK?”

Both the dog and the child quickly retreated inside the house. The official seemed to hold back and called for assistance.

Mylasia Hunnicutt was at work when she received the call from her son about the incident. She hurried home and observed several patrol cars stationed in front of the house. She also noticed a dent in the concrete in front of her door where the bullet struck.

Initially, she was informed that her son was struck by concrete fragments. She rushed her son to the hospital and later discovered the truth.

“They had done the X-ray and saw the bullet fragments,” said Hunnicutt.

Hunnicut mentioned that their dog, Coco, also sustained a bullet fragment in her abdomen and a graze on her knee.

“She did not jump on the cop, she did not bite the cop, she did not bark at the cop. What if he would have killed my dog and my son?” said Hunnicutt.

Hunnicutt mentioned that her son is extremely frightened and does not even want to discuss the gunfire incident.

She expressed her bewilderment at the deputy’s reaction.

“I guess they need better training for officers because if you’re that scared as a cop of a dog, and you open fire on a dog and a child, you might not need to be an officer,” said Hunnicutt.

FOX 5 reached out to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office for an interview or statement regarding the incident, but has not yet received a response.
