Accident – Death – Obituary News : The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has recently identified the victims of a suspected murder-suicide in El Paso County, Colorado. The deceased individuals have been named as Esmeralda Contreras-Mata, a 25-year-old woman, and Thabiso Makhafola, a 31-year-old man.
The tragic incident took place on May 16, just after 9 a.m. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation through a welfare check at a residence on Cottonwood Drive in the Security-Widefield area of unincorporated El Paso County. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Contreras-Mata and Makhafola.
While the El Paso County Coroner’s Office has not yet disclosed the cause of death for the two individuals, the Sheriff’s Office has indicated that the case is being treated as a potential murder-suicide. Authorities have assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety in relation to this incident.
In a separate but equally concerning development, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a report of human remains discovered at Patty Jewett Golf Course. The findings were made near a small creek close to the sixth hole, approximately 100 yards from the clubhouse. CSPD officers, along with personnel from the Metro Crime Lab and the El Paso County Coroner’s Office, were observed at the scene conducting investigations.
