In a dramatic turn of events, a deputy with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office crashed into a residential home on Monday, May 20, whilst in pursuit of a fleeing suspect.
The incident unfolded after the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office alerted Dodge County authorities to a vehicle, driven by 58-year-old Harvey Cox of Wonewoc, who was wanted on a felony warrant for fleeing from his jury trial in Juneau County.
As the chase escalated, the deputy responding to assist in the pursuit lost control of his squad car on the rain-soaked intersection of State Highway 68 and County A in Fox Lake. The vehicle veered off the road and collided with a nearby house.
Fortunately, the deputy sustained only minor injuries in the crash, and miraculously, no one else was harmed. The investigation into the incident is currently being conducted by the Fox Lake Police Department.
Following the collision, the fleeing suspect continued to evade law enforcement, eventually coming to a stop in Waupun. Cox was promptly arrested and taken into custody after a strenuous pursuit that put both officers and civilians at risk.
As the community comes to terms with the shocking events of that Monday afternoon, questions are being raised about the safety protocols and procedures involved in high-speed chases, and the potential risks posed to both law enforcement officers and innocent bystanders.
