In a tragic incident in Homer, Alaska, a 70-year-old man named Dale Chorman was attacked and killed by a mother moose while attempting to take photos of her two newborn calves. The attack occurred on Sunday, as Chorman and another individual were walking through the brush in search of the moose.
According to Austin McDaniel, a spokesperson for the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the female moose became aggressive and attacked Chorman as they tried to run away. The second man, who has not been publicly identified, escaped uninjured. It is unclear whether the moose killed Chorman by kicking, stomping, or a combination of both.
Medics pronounced Chorman dead at the scene, and the cow moose fled the area. This is not the first instance of a fatal moose attack in Alaska, as in 1995, a 71-year-old man was stomped to death by a moose while trying to enter a building on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus.
