Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from Connecticut is facing manslaughter charges in connection with a fatal wrong-way crash in Danbury last autumn after investigators reportedly discovered social media posts of him drinking at multiple bars shortly before the crash.

Charles Connors, 34, from Milford was arrested on Tuesday and charged with second-degree manslaughter, reckless endangerment, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, operating under the influence, and speeding, according to the Connecticut State Police.

The charges relate to a head-on collision that tragically resulted in the death of a 25-year-old woman from Danbury in September 2023.

At 1:53 a.m. on the 10th of September 2023, troopers responded to reports of a head-on crash just north of an on-ramp near Exit 7 on Route 7 South in Danbury. State police found a grey Honda Accord and a black Dodge Challenger that had collided in the left lane, according to the warrant affidavit.

The Honda driver, identified as Danielle Dempsey of Danbury, was found unresponsive in her vehicle and taken to Danbury Hospital, where she tragically passed away less than an hour later, state police reported.

Allegations of Intoxication

Connors, who was driving the Dodge, was also found unconscious and trapped in his vehicle. He was extricated and taken to the same hospital with serious injuries, state police revealed.

Connors was initially interviewed by troopers in a Danbury hospital room on the night of the crash and allegedly exhibited signs of intoxication. According to the warrant affidavit for his arrest, Connors purportedly denied drinking or driving before eventually admitting to consuming alcohol. Toxicology reports later indicated that Connors’ blood alcohol content was well above the legal limit at .197.

Social Media Evidence

Police were shown several Instagram stories from an account allegedly linked to Connors, with videos and photos posted hours before the crash. The account reportedly depicted Connors at multiple bars, consuming what appeared to be alcoholic beverages.

One video showed a person believed to be Connors talking about “taking shots.” Investigators also visited a Norwalk bar where Connors was believed to have been before the crash, and staff provided receipts showing his purchases of several tequila shots and margaritas.

Eyewitness Account

An eyewitness who was driving on Route 7 the night of the crash claimed to have seen the Dodge driving in the wrong direction just before the Sugar Hollow Road exit. The witness managed to swerve to avoid a collision but saw the two cars smoking after they collided, according to the warrant affidavit.

An arrest warrant for Connors was issued on the 7th of May. He was apprehended by the Milford Police Department and taken to Troop A Southbury on Tuesday, state police confirmed.

Connors is currently being held on a $300,000 bond and was due to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Wednesday.
