Accident – Death – Obituary News :

HOUSTON – A non-profit organization dedicated to working with children and teens to help them transform their lives through education and workforce development is addressing the recent incident involving five children who stole a car and led police on a chase.

After the chase, authorities discovered that one child, a 12-year-old, had tragically died in the backseat of the stolen vehicle. Two other children were hospitalized with minor injuries, while two more are currently evading capture.

In response to this disturbing incident, KPRC 2’s Re’Chelle Turner and Michael Lemons interviewed Marvin Pierre, Co-Founder & Executive Director of 8 Million Stories, to discuss the importance of providing support and guidance to at-risk youth.

Pierre explained, “We are a local non-profit that works with at-promise youth between the ages of 9 and 24, helping them to transform their lives through education, workforce development, and case management.”

He emphasised the need for proactive measures to engage young people in positive activities, stating, “Idle time is not a good thing for our youth. After-school programs are crucial, but unfortunately, many are underfunded and being phased out. We need to invest more in these programs and tailor them to the interests of today’s youth.”

Reflecting on the tragic outcome of the car theft incident, Pierre urged community leaders to take action to prevent similar occurrences in the future, saying, “We must work towards reducing these troubling stories and guiding our youth towards a positive path.”

Sharing a success story, Pierre recounted how the organisation helped a troubled young man by creating a Saturday program in collaboration with local partners, providing a safe space for boys to engage in community activities and sports.

He highlighted the importance of offering these programs at no cost to families, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent access to vital support services.
