Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal car crash on state Route 163 near Mission Valley as 18-year-old Tyjuan Mayfield, who hailed from Perris in Riverside County. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, when Mayfield, a Navy man stationed at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, was driving south through Linda Vista in a Nissan Maxima.
According to reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office and California Highway Patrol, the Nissan Maxima veered off the freeway north of Friars Road, travelled up an embankment, struck a tree, and ultimately overturned. Tragically, Mayfield was ejected from the sedan and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The loss of Tyjuan Mayfield has deeply saddened his family, friends, and colleagues at Naval Air Station North Island. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
