Josefina Cardona-Cardona : “Florida Mom Accused of Hitman Hire After Son’s Conviction”

A woman from Florida was taken into custody earlier this week after authorities revealed that she had attempted to contract a hitman in response to her son’s conviction for murder, as per the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Following a murder-for-hire investigation, deputies were alerted to the situation and discovered that a woman known only as “Maria” was inquiring about hiring a hitman, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The affidavit stated that “Maria” had planned to meet with an informant to discuss the details of the scheme on April 18. The informant provided law enforcement with “Maria’s” contact number, which upon further investigation turned out to belong to Josefina Cardona-Cardona, aged 43.

Records indicate that Cardona-Cardona’s son, Manuel Cardona, aged 16, was convicted earlier this year for a murder that took place in June 2022.

The incident involved Manuel stabbing a man who was attempting to diffuse a confrontation at a child’s birthday party. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Following the altercation, Manuel and his parents allegedly assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene. Manuel was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison for second-degree murder.

An undercover agent contacted Cardona-Cardona posing as a hitman, to which she allegedly expressed her desire to have two witnesses eliminated for her son’s incarceration. She offered to pay $8,000 for their deaths, specifying that one of the victims should be shot in the body to inflict pain.

Following several meetings with the undercover agent, during which she discussed payment and her motives, Cardona-Cardona was apprehended on Monday. She now faces charges of solicitation and first-degree murder, with a bond set at $550,000.
