The incident, which took place around 9:35 AM on Highway 99 just north of Lander Avenue, has left the community in mourning.

According to reports from The Modesto Bee, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has revealed that Rivera was driving a 2010 Mazda sedan southbound on Highway 99 when the collision occurred. The other vehicle involved was a 2022 Ford SUV, also travelling southbound in the same lane.
Initial investigations suggest that Rivera was travelling at a high speed as he attempted to overtake the Ford SUV. The impact caused his Mazda to veer across all lanes of traffic before overturning multiple times on the west shoulder of the highway. Tragically, Rivera was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Doctors Medical Center.
Fortunately, the driver of the Ford SUV, a 28-year-old woman from San Jose, escaped the incident without sustaining any injuries.
