The incident, which occurred early Sunday morning, claimed the life of 67-year-old Madette Roche Laurent, who was attempting to cross Northeast Sixth Avenue and 149th Street when she was struck and killed.
Miami-Dade Police reported that Taylor fled the scene without stopping to render aid or call 911, leaving Laurent to succumb to her injuries. Paramedics pronounced Laurent dead at the scene, leaving her family devastated by the sudden loss.
Following an anonymous tip, police traced Taylor to his residence, where they discovered a vehicle with extensive front-end damage matching the description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. A passenger who was with Taylor at the time of the incident corroborated the events, stating that Taylor was driving the vehicle and fled the scene after hitting Laurent.
Taylor’s vehicle was impounded for evidence, and he was subsequently located and arrested. After invoking his right to an attorney and retracting a self-serving statement given to police, Taylor was taken into custody and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center to face charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death.
