The Lucknow police have cracked a three-month-old murder case with the apprehension of a 13-year-old girl and her 19-year-old boyfriend. The duo is accused of killing the girl’s landlord, who had been allegedly harassing her for a prolonged period in the Wazirganj area of the city.
ADCP West Zone, Vishwajeet Srivastava, confirmed the identities of the suspects as Bunty Kashyap and his minor girlfriend. The two will be presented before the court to face charges of murder under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302. The police had already registered a case in this regard.
According to the authorities, the investigation team, comprising ACP Chowk Raj Kumar, SHO Chowk Dinesh Mishra, and the crime branch, managed to solve the case. The police recovered the weapon used in the crime during the investigation.
The victim, identified as Shyam Chandra Gupta, aged 56, was discovered dead in a drain in the River Bank Colony of Wazirganj on March 3. His son, Ankur Gupta, had filed a missing person report, prompting the police to launch a search operation.
It was revealed that Shyam Chandra Gupta had been allegedly preying on the minor girl and subjecting her to sexual harassment. The girl confided in her boyfriend, Bunty, about the ordeal, leading them to devise a plan to eliminate the perpetrator. The minor girl slit the landlord’s throat, and the body was disposed of by wrapping it in a bedsheet cover and dumping it in the drain behind the residence.
It is a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community in Lucknow. The swift action taken by the police in solving the case is commendable, and justice must prevail for the victim and his family.
