A 47-year-old man has been apprehended in Rancho Mirage on suspicion of stealing items from a garage and vehicle in a gated community. The theft was reported at approximately 8:30 a.m. on April 30, with deputies responding to the residential burglary that took place while the victims were asleep.

According to a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect first targeted the victim’s vehicle before gaining access to their garage using a garage door opener. The thief then proceeded to steal items from both the vehicle and the garage.

Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team (SET) deputies were able to gather evidence linking the suspect to the burglary. The individual, who is a resident of Thousand Palms, was identified as the perpetrator.

On May 1, SET deputies located and arrested the suspect on Bob Hope Drive and Via Marta in Rancho Mirage. The 47-year-old was subsequently booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on charges of first-degree burglary and possession of stolen property, with a bail enhancement of £500,000.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the suspect is set to appear in court on May 16. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Deputy Jacob Paull of the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station on (760) 393-3220.
