CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Charlotte community is coming together to pay tribute to the life and service of Deputy US Marshal Thomas “Tommy” Weeks Jr., who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

The memorial service, scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m., will take place at the Bojangles Coliseum on 2700 E Independence Blvd in Charlotte. The event is open to all members of the community who wish to show their support and respect.

High-profile figures such as Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and Director Ron Davis of the U.S. Marshals Service will be present to deliver remarks at the memorial service. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco will also be in attendance to honor Deputy Weeks.

Deputy Marshal Weeks, aged 48 and hailing from Mooresville, tragically lost his life on April 29 in the line of duty. The fatal incident occurred when Terry Hughes Jr., aged 39, opened fire on law enforcement officers, resulting in the tragic deaths of Deputy Weeks and three other officers.

Deputy Weeks was part of a law enforcement team executing a warrant for the arrest of Hughes, who was wanted by authorities in Lincoln County. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of Galway Drive in east Charlotte.

Remembering the Fallen Heroes

The other three law enforcement officers who tragically lost their lives alongside Deputy Weeks have been identified as:

  • CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer (Also a Sergeant First Class in the North Carolina Army National Guard – 211th Military Police Company)
  • Samuel Poloche, NC Dept. of Adult Corrections (Member of U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force)
  • William Elliott, NC Dept. of Adult Corrections (Member of U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force)

Deputy Weeks began his career with the U.S. Marshals Service in February 2011 at the District of Columbia’s Superior Court in Washington, DC. He later transferred to Charlotte in November 2014.

Prior to his service with the U.S. Marshals, Deputy Weeks spent eight years with Customs and Border Protection, demonstrating his dedication to public service and law enforcement.
